How salary is taxed in Uganda

Income tax in Uganda is progressive: marginal rates rise from 10% to 40% as income grows. Employees also pay social contributions of around 5% of gross salary. The standard VAT rate is 18%. For example, a gross salary of UGX 3,000,000 per month leaves about UGX 2,048,000 net, after UGX 802,000 income tax and UGX 150,000 in social contributions, an effective deduction rate of 31.73%.
